Local government agencies in Ohio have the ability to create electonic content, sign it electronically, save the image and burn the image to microfilm all without ever creating paper.
Here is an example:
A clerk types a resolution in MSWord. The clerk saves the resolution to the county document management system as pending legislation. The county commissioners check their email and see their is new pending legislation. The click on the email to take them to document within the document management system. The commissioners review the legislation. 
During their next meeting the commissioners bring up the electronic pending legislation from the document management system and sign the documents using a signature pad. The newly signed image is burned as a new image with signature permanently affixed. The document is routed to signed legislation in the document management system. At the end of the year, the county records manager selects all the previous year’s signed legislation to migrate to microfilm as archive. The images are converted using an image archiving appliance such as Kodak Archive Writer.
Save a tree…buy a signature pad.

On Wednesday, May 21st, Michele received a call from a Cleveland area school; their computers were down and had no way to access there school records that we scanned for them. They were desperately searching for a prior student’s birth certificate. Michele took the information that she needed and located the document and faxed it over for them. When Michele called them back to let them know that it was found, the customer told the rest of the staff, and Michele could hear them cheer in the background. The reason they needed the birth certificate was because a parent called requesting it. Evidently, their daughter was stuck in India, until they could come up with her birth certificate.

As we mark the first anniversary of the GEORGE blog we bring some exciting news. Not only have we added Education Market to GEORGE, but we have added two exceptional individuals to the team: Jack Hudson and Sue D’Agostino. Both have been with CASNET and have moved to the GEORGE team to continue our focus on the unique challenges of document management in the public sector. Wow, what an exciting first quarter of a year. We have experienced tremendous opportunities to work with government agencies to deliver better, more efficient constituent service. I am pleased to announce the addition of the Education market to our GEORGE Solutions.
